Many local citizens worked for Seaboard and Southern Railways as both had service and depots in the Ellenboro area. Railroad tools on display came from local family collections.
Cotton was king in the agriculture community located in and around Ellenboro.

Ellenboro was home to an extensive number of cotton fields, four cotton gins and one cotton textile mill.
The Train Depot was constructed around 1886 and the first train came through Ellenboro in 1887--over a dozen years before the town was incorporated.
CSX still operates train service in Ellenboro several times a day. Specialized train track maintenance equipment is often found on the side track near the depot.
