The Ellenboro Train Depot Museum is a significant historical site located in Ellenboro, NC. This former train station offers a glimpse into the past providing visitors with a unique perspective on the region’s history and the role of rail transportation in its development.
The depot, constructed around 1886 by Carolina Central Railways, is a one-story rectangular wood-frame structure. It includes two waiting rooms for passengers, a station office, and a freight storage room. The rooms are filled with artifacts, photographs, and memorabilia documenting the history of Ellenboro and surrounding communities.
This historic structure is located on its original foundation and in its original location beside the railroad tracks still in active use by CSX. The Depot Museum provides a tangible link to the past and is a ‘must see’ for history enthusiasts.
The Ellenboro Train Depot Museum is owned and operated by the non-profit Ellenboro Community Restoration Association (ECRA).
